Ecumenical Lenten Discussion Series 2012

Let us break bread together as representatives from 4 Vienna churches discuss this year’s theme: CHRISTIAN PRAYER & WORSHIP. To download a black & white version of the flyer, please click to the images on the right.

For 4 Fridays in Lent, members and friends of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church (OLGC), Vienna Baptist Church and Wesley United Methodist Church are invited to come together to learn and dialogue about the some of the ways our respective communities understand and practice Christian prayer and worship.

A meal of soup and bread will be provided during the discussion. Lenten Longings: For the Life of the World

FOR WHAT OR FOR WHOM ARE YOU LONGING? “Is that all there is?” says the song of the ‘60s. It is a fact that so many are longing for more ─ more time, more peace, more health, etc. What is it that you long for? Lent is a time when Catholics traditionally have fasted and prayed with the hope that they would have time to think about the more important things in life. Why not try something else this Lent? In our parish, we
will have the opportunity to gather in small groups of 8 to 10 people, once a week for six weeks starting the week of Ash Wednesday. When we gather, we will read Scripture, pray, and share our faith. This experience will provide more than you can imagine.

Major Schedule Change for RCIA

Beginning this Advent, there will be a major schedule change for several RCIA sessions. During the first half of the liturgical year (December to May), the Adult RCIA dismissal sessions and all Children’s RCIA sessions and will take place on Sunday mornings (click here for specific times). During the second half of the liturgical year (June to November), the Adult RCIA Dismissal and all Children’s RCIA sessions will take place on Sunday evenings (click here for specific times). Adult RCIA inquiry and catechetical sessions will remain on Wednesday evenings.

Start off the Advent season by learning about and making your own Advent wreath and parol (star lantern), some of the many symbols associated with this time of waiting and preparation for the Christmas season. This intergenerational event has proven to be a great event for families and folks of all ages for the past 2 years. Help us make this a tradition for OLGC Parish in the years to come!

Parents Unite! An Evening of Dinner, Practical Pointers & Prayer for Parents of Teens, Tweens & Future Teens

Parents of 5th-12th graders Evening of Dinner, Practical Pointers, & Prayer: All Saints in Manassas invites you to attend a special 5 hour conference on parenting teens with Dinner on Saturday, October 15th from 3-8pm. Keynote Art Bennett speaks on the Temperments of Teens, a licensed professional counselor speaks on Teens in Crisis, Fr. Juan Puigbo who hosts his own radio show speaks on Theology of the Body, and a former lawyer in the US Justice Department dealing with juvenile issues will address Internet Safety 101. In addition, there will be a Q & A period with young people who have recently moved past the teenage years. Confessions and Adoration will be included along with an opportunity to network with other parents. The cost is $40/couple or $25/individual. The sessions are presented in English & Spanish. Adult Faith Formation Kick-Off receives great response: Slides are now posted!

On Wednesday, September 14 and Sunday, September 18, two of our new adult faith formation programs, FaithMatters and the Fall Bible Study Series: And God Said What? kicked off with a great response from the OLGC community. Attendance for the FaithMatters Morning and Evening Sessions totaled about 34 adults. On the first night of the Fall Bible Study Series, 34 adults were in attendance.

Please continue to spread the word about these fledgling programs! All adults are welcome, and you do not need to register before coming in. The slides from this week’s sessions are available below:
