Ecumenical Lenten Discussion Series 2012

COMING UP: WEEK OF 3/23/2012

Hear Rev. Ray Brill, Pastor of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, speak about The Power of Journaling with Prayer (note speaker change).

WEEK OF 3/9/2012:

Hear Rev. Bob Albritton, Senior Pastor of Vienna Baptist Church, speak about the Lord’s Prayer:

We find the Lord’s Prayer of Matthew 6 in the exact middle of the Sermon on the Mount. Matthew and his church must have considered this prayer as essential for anyone who wishes to follow the teachings found in Jesus’ main sermon. On our own, we could not come up with a prayer like this, but Jesus does. With its strategic beginning, “Our Abba (Daddy),” Jesus teaches us to pray in such a way that we bond with our brother Jesus as well as with our brothers and sisters of Jesus’ family. We will explore how this prayer gives us three “you” petitions” and three “us” petitions as a way to teach us how to pray and how to follow Jesus.

Let us break bread together as representatives from 4 Vienna churches discuss this year’s theme: CHRISTIAN PRAYER & WORSHIP. To download a black & white version of the flyer, please click to the images on the right.

For 4 Fridays in Lent, members and friends of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church (OLGC), Vienna Baptist Church and Wesley United Methodist Church are invited to come together to learn and dialogue about the some of the ways our respective communities understand and practice Christian prayer and worship.

A meal of soup and bread will be provided during the discussion.  Anyone who is interested is invited to join in the separate Way of the Cross (Stations) prayer service immediately following at 7:30 p.m. Because space is limited, we ask that you please RSVP to Dave Natella, OLGC Parish Ecumenical and Interreligious Representative at natellacd@verizon.net or 703-790-1619 OR Jessica Dennis, Director of Christian Formation @ OLGC, at dre@olgcva.org.
